Different types of oils for lubricating mechanisms are sold on the market. However, the special oil for shredders is formulated in such a way that it coats the cutting mechanism with a thin layer, thus preventing the paper from "sticking" to the blades, guaranteeing trouble-free operation and increasing the life of the machine. Other lubricating oils for general use can also be used (with some caveats, because not all are for this type of mechanism). You will probably be able to find a replacement by experimenting on the shredder, but you have to be honest with yourself, the price of our oil is good enough to save you the headache and the cost of a possible service. Approximately (with the caveat that this depends on the capacity and volume of paper grinding) 1 liter of oil and with very frequent lubrication, it is enough for about 1-2 years. Purchasing a shredder is an investment (whether big or small) for any office. Its job is to give you security and confidence knowing that any confidential or personal documents you dispose of are in a state where no one can extract information from them. Like any machine, it also requires some (we would say negligible) maintenance. To ensure this trouble-free operation, the machine must be lubricated periodically. Failure to do so may cause the shredder to become clogged with clippings and eventually stop working. Then you're left with an expensive waste bin ;-(
